What's the Most Average Country?
What's the most average country in the world? This is half a geography question and half a math question, so it's a great topic for this channel to tackle. Find out how we decide which national statistics are most relevant, and how we can effectively use the mathematics of averages to determine once and for all which countries are most (and least) average. Let's explore!

Where Does Australia End?
Просмотров 226 тыс.3 месяца назад
Where does Australia end? Australia is famously an island continent so it seems like an easy question, but it’s actually a bit complex. The problem isn’t the Australian mainland, which definitely ends at its coastline, but rather which of Australia’s neighboring islands are actually part of the continent. In terms of biology, geology, and oceanography, Australia could extend far beyond its main...

Would you believe there are 40 planets are in our Solar System? If you ask the IAU - the International Astronomical Union - there are only 8, but that might not be the best possible answer. If we take a more physics-based definition of what makes a planet a planet, we might have at least 40 planets in our Solar System, and maybe many more! Learn about these forgotten planetary bodies and what m...

What are the US's Nearest Neighbors?
This is one of the most interesting videos I’ve seen lately, excellent work and thank you for making it!
Like nails on a chalkboard when someone says that Australia is the only country that spans a continent given Australia definitely doesn't span the entire continental shelf of Sahul.
HOLY SHIT IS THAT THAILAND MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥LADYBOY COUNTRY LET'S GOOO 🎉🎉🎉 as a thai I think my country are not that suck but it could be better. Somehow, people from any country would think that way, right?
I think the one that really should be considered a Great Lake is saint claire shores it may be shallow and less big but it makes a third of fish catches in Michigan is so I heard and it does have a lot of fish and I’m pretty sure it can cause storms and it really needs to be considered a Great Lake because it has a lot of pollution
ALAS spelt with a K? I don’t think you know what alas means, that is rad
I can't believe you actually suggested using a logarithmic scale for determining how close a parameter is to the mean. A much more sensible way to find the most average country is to calculate how many standard deviations from the mean each country is across each domain and find the country where the sum of the standard deviations is closest to 0.
I was expecting a mediocre video with a mostly random list created by some random criteria and was ready to spam comments like: "Yeah, but you should really consider the mean not the average." or "Better calculate this way." but I was deeply disappointed. This has the quality of a scientific study (youtube standards for videos with a title like this). Well done! Have my like!
I'm from Jordan and I can tell you that Jordan is the most average country in almost everything
this vid is basically what math would look like if it was intresting lol
lol - that's pretty much the goal I suppose
As an Azerbaijani, I say that we are truly average
Shoutouts to Tunisia for being mid as fuck
Na baxxus aztán az asztro előrejelzések???? hehe
Plot twist: turkiye İs the most average country but turkiye got averaged in the video
Tbh 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan is kinda mid
I'm not Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander but I am happy to see the inclusivity disclaimer at the start of your video. I haven't seen it in so long and I haven't seen it in use aside from on ABC and SBS documentaries about their history.
5:04 \_(0_0)_/ I couldn’t do the face right… so yeah
And the hands hehe…
The trick is Japanese syllables, or just copy-pasting it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Certain groups of people with a certain political view love to spread the opinion about their history, as the only opinion, and that opinions are fact , even if its an "educated" opinion. With how long they have been here always changes, anywhere vrom 40,000 yrs to 65,000, even 150,000, some people like to say the aboriginals were the first people on the planet. There is no proof to back up the claim, but seeing there is no evidence to the contrary is some how good enough to beleive its factual.
You forgot phobos and deimos [the moons of mars]
wait ..... they 're not round............
wait they 're mentionend
Yup, I did mention them as an example of some moons that are not round. There are more non-round moons besides those, too.
I’m sure you did a lot of research on it 😮
You could exclude population and weigh other values by population to get idea of an average citizen (If I math correctly)
Ceres is a dwarf planet, not an asteroid. Classified as such since 2006.....
You didn't tell us what is the most average country.....
I'm pretty sure I did - Azerbaijan (if like me you prefer to use the median as average).
Australia means "the common wealth of Australia" its a coorperation, when used in a geographical aense australia include Norfolk Island the territory of christmas island and territory of the cocos island and everything to the coast including no land within (Section 2B - 15B acts interpretation Act 1901)
Great video Bro, I really see you in the future as a Big channel of geo videos. Keep it up and new sub.
Thanks so much!
no mention of lake Winnipeg. how disappointing.
It's in the sequel video to this one - Lake Winnipeg is outside the Great Lakes watershed

How can both Austria and Azerbaijan be 114th in Area?
Good catch - Azerbaijan is actually 113th
EU4 MENTIONED!!!!!
Haha yep!
Demək , axır ki , nədəsə hamıdan öndə olmağı bacardıq. Bu da bizim , hamıdan daha çox ortalama olmağımızdır. Siyasətimiz də , yəqin buna görə balanslıdır 😄😄😄.
Is a person of short stature whom is a dwarf not a real person?
ok but which countries are the median countries on your generated lists? The countries with the "most average averageness"
Angola and Togo, I believe - feel free to check out the link to the sheet in the description.
like wdym forgoten countries amarica is 1 country not 50. its states u mean
As someone who lives off the coast of Lake Simcoe, it brings me great joy to see it mentioned in this video!
I live 10 minutes from Lake Michigan. It’s awesome and beautiful.
Thanks for the information 👍
This vid had potential if u tried harder tbh. Ignoring temperature, biome, climate, culture, religion made it useless imo
You're allowed to have your own opinions of course, but I don't think that would have been more informative - you can't exactly have a median culture or religion.
@@SignoreGalilei Yes, you can. Religion is on most countries census and culture is something you would have to actually research and think, instead of getting simple data from wikipedia.
@@tiagomoraes1510 but how would you make a rank order that you could do statistics to? Is Buddhism a higher or lower number than Islam? Is Peruvian culture more or less average than Guatemalan culture? That seems at best subjective and at worst impossible. You could try seeing which country has the broadest mix of cultures and religions, but that doesn't seem average to me so much as multicultural.
@@SignoreGalilei You simply take the number of pratictioners worlwide of each religion and compare to the proportion of religion in a specific country
Dear strangers, please pray for my recovery and strength as I battle through some tough health challenges.
As a Georgian, I think my country is more average than Azerbaijan, since Azerbaijan at least has a great anthem 🇬🇪
As a native Buffalonian, these lakes mean home.
As a Colombian this is kind of true
Azerbaijan should NOT be an independent state. Its a part of Iran. even the name of it is Persian. Unfortunately, Azerbaijan was separated from Iran after treaty of Golestan
You might call it Averagebaijan
but being the most average country makes the country not average because it's not the average averageness
Mainland Australia is the largest island in the world. USA has a broken education system.
I mean we do, but not for that reason.
i live in Toronto and used to go to the French river a lot when i was young. i used to think some parts of the French were like a lake.🤣🤣
*matcht*
I live by lake erie, the walleye there are amazing to catch, averaging about 5 a day!
Signore Galilei, for years I pronounced Nipigon as you do here. Then, I found some years ago that it's NIP-ig-un. Actually, the 'c' in Mackinac isn't silent, but is pronounced as a 'w', which comes from its Chippewa/Ojibwa origins.
I certainly did not expect a Malaysia jumpscare! 😅 Maths and geography are among my favourite topics, so I'm glad the algorithm recommended this video to me.
